Today is a special day as we join the excitement under the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro! After a quick pre-dawn breakfast, we’ll head to the Kili Marathon start line. The marathon starts at 6:30 a.m., the half marathon at 7:00 a.m., and the 5 km Fun Run at 7:30 a.m.
The marathon course features stunning landscapes, small farms, and banana and coffee plantations. The uphill section is tackled first to take advantage of cooler morning temperatures, followed by a gradual climb and a fast descent after 10 km. The route remains consistent with the half marathon until the 19 km mark, where it loops through Moshi town. Most of the race takes place between 830m and 1150m altitude on well-paved roads.
The race concludes by 12:30 p.m., but this event is more than just a race; it's a festival for around 11,000 participants. With a generous cut-off time, there's plenty of opportunity to soak in the atmosphere, enjoy local bands, and sample delicious food from various stalls. Around 1 p.m., we’ll transfer to our next accommodation in Arusha (80 km, approximately 2-hour drive). The rest of the day is yours to relax by the pool or in the lodge's beautiful garden before we gather for a celebratory dinner.
Travel from Arusha to Lake Manyara National Park, where stunning landscapes and diverse wildlife await. Enjoy breathtaking views of the lake and lush forests, home to elephants, flamingos, and other remarkable animals. This vibrant ecosystem provides a perfect introduction to Tanzania’s natural beauty and adventure.
>Travel from the Ngorongoro Crater to Serengeti National Park, renowned for its vast savannahs and incredible wildlife migrations. Experience the thrill of spotting majestic animals such as lions, cheetahs, and herds of wildebeest against a stunning backdrop. This iconic journey immerses you in the heart of Africa's most famous ecosystem.
Today focuses on wildlife as we enjoy full-day game drives in Serengeti, witnessing the Great Migration and calving season with baby animals and active predators. For those interested, a dawn Hot Air Balloon Ride (approx. $600 USD per person) offers a stunning start to the day. It’s a worthwhile splurge for a unique view of the plains.
We’ll check in to a new tented camp before sunset or return to our current camp for the night. All accommodations will feature comfortable beds and ensuite bathrooms, chosen based on the migration route.
After breakfast, we'll embark on one final sunrise game drive en route to Seronera airstrip. Those heading to Zanzibar will board the flight departing at 11:30 a.m. If today marks your farewell, you'll take home cherished memories, unique stories, and new friendships.
Please note: We recommend booking a domestic flight from Seronera airstrip for your onward journey, as driving back to Arusha takes over 8 hours and can be quite bumpy, while the flight is only 1 hour. Feel free to reach out to discuss the best travel options for you.
