• Arrive at the Kilimanjaro International Airport where you will be met at the airport by Kizza Adventures driver and tour guide. After a satisfying lunch, we’ll leave the main trail and venture southeast across the moorland on a narrower path, moving towards the striking peaks of Mawenzi. Our campsite for the night will be in a cozy, sheltered valley near Kikelewa Caves (11,800 ft), adorned with impressive giant senecios. This spot offers a tranquil setting to rest and enjoy the unique landscape on your 8-day Rongai Route climb.

  • Your day on the 8-day Rongai Route begins with an early breakfast before setting off on a trek to Mawenzi Tarn Camp. Nestled at the base of Mawenzi Volcano, Kilimanjaro's second-highest peak, this camp offers a stunning location for your lunch and a well-deserved two-hour rest. In the afternoon, you'll continue on an acclimatization hike towards Mawenzi Volcano, gaining about 200m/656ft in altitude. This easy trek helps you adjust to the higher elevation and is crucial for improving your chances of a successful summit. After your acclimatization hike, you'll return to Mawenzi Tarn Camp for dinner and an evening of relaxation.   • On this day of your 8-day Rongai Route Kilimanjaro climb, we'll traverse the otherworldly desert of the saddle that lies between Mawenzi and Kibo. Our destination is Kibo Hut (15,400 ft), situated at the base of the crater wall. Once we arrive, you’ll spend the rest of the day resting and preparing for the early morning final ascent. .

  • In the early hours of the morning (midnight to 2am), you'll begin the climb to the summit as part of your 8-day Rongai Route kilimanjaro climb. This challenging ascent takes you up steep scree or snow to Gilman’s Point on the crater rim (5,700m/18,700ft). From there, continue your climb to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, where you'll be rewarded with incredible views at every turn. After reaching the peak, you'll start your descent, stopping for lunch and a rest at Kibo Hut before heading on to the Horombo encampment. Continue your descent through a lush forest path until you reach the National Park gate at Marangu. Be prepared for wet and muddy conditions at lower elevations—gaiters and trekking poles will be useful, and wearing shorts and t-shirts should be comfortable, though keeping rain gear and warmer clothing handy is advisable.
