20 days tanzania luxury safari tours & zanzibar beach holiday Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport – Welcome to Tanzania!

Karibu Tanzania! Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, your dedicated Kizza Adventures guide will warmly greet you. From there, you'll embark on a scenic drive to your accommodation in Arusha—an approximately 1.5-hour journey through the picturesque landscapes of northern Tanzania (timing may vary depending on your arrival and traffic conditions). Once you've checked in, the remainder of the day is yours to unwind and settle in. Whether you choose to relax in the comfort of your hotel or take a stroll around the nearby area, today is all about rest and rejuvenation.

Day 2: Arusha to Tarangire National Park – Into the Wild

We begin our adventure with an early departure from Arusha, heading toward the striking Tarangire National Park. This park is named after the life-giving Tarangire River that cuts through the rugged terrain, attracting wildlife such as giraffes, waterbucks, wildebeests, zebras, and the park's famed large elephant population.

The park boasts over 550 species of birds and is known for its majestic baobab trees and scenic, rolling hills. After an exhilarating morning game drive, you will enjoy a picnic lunch overlooking the riverbanks, watching wildlife come and go. The afternoon brings more game viewing before you exit the park and head to your accommodation.

Day 3: Tarangire to Serengeti National Park – The Great Migration Begins

After breakfast, our journey continues to the legendary Serengeti National Park. Spanning over 14,000 square kilometers, this world-renowned reserve is home to Africa’s “Big Five” — lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhinoceros.

The word “Serengeti” is derived from the Maasai term Siringet, meaning “endless plains,” a name well-suited for this iconic landscape. The Serengeti is teeming with wildlife, including more than 2,500 lions, millions of wildebeests, over 200,000 zebras, giraffes, baboons, antelopes, hippos, crocodiles, and an extraordinary array of birdlife — more than 500 species, from ostriches to crowned cranes.

After a picnic or bush lunch, we continue our wildlife exploration with an afternoon game drive across the vast savannah. A visit to the Serengeti promises unforgettable encounters, no matter the time of year.

Day 4: Full Day in Serengeti – Sunrise Safari & Golden Plains

The day begins with a sunrise game drive, offering a magical view of the Serengeti bathed in golden light as animals begin their daily rhythm. This is an ideal time to spot predators on the move and herds grazing in the cool morning air.

you will return to camp for a leisurely late breakfast, followed by some rest. Later, you venture back out into the plains for more exploration. You will enjoy a picnic lunch under the shade of acacia trees, with the sights and sounds of the wild all around. The evening is yours to relax at camp and reflect on the day’s incredible sightings.

Day 5: Serengeti to Lake Victoria – Shores of the Great Lake

After a hearty breakfast, we journey westward through the Serengeti with more wildlife viewing along the way. By late afternoon, we reach the shores of Lake Victoria—the largest lake in Africa and the world’s largest tropical freshwater lake.

Covering 68,800 square kilometers, this enormous lake touches Tanzania, Uganda, and Kenya. Rich in biodiversity, the lake is home to hippos, Nile crocodiles, monitor lizards, otters, and a variety of birdlife including the colorful kingfisher. You’ll arrive at your lodge in the early evening with time to enjoy the peaceful lakeside setting.

Day 6: Lake Victoria – Village Life & Lake Exploration

Today you’ll enjoy a relaxed breakfast before setting off for a boat excursion on Lake Victoria. Keep your eyes peeled for water-loving creatures like hippos and reptiles basking in the sun, along with a vibrant mix of bird species.

Later, you will visit a nearby Sukuma village to experience local culture firsthand. Walk through a bustling market, witness the daily life of fishermen, and engage with the warm and welcoming community. This is a perfect opportunity to learn about traditional livelihoods and customs.

Day 7: Lake Victoria → Ngorongoro Conservation Area – Ancient Pathways

In the early morning, you will enjoy a final game drive through the western corridor of the Serengeti as we make our way toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Along the way, you will stop at the historic Olduvai Gorge, one of the most significant paleoanthropological sites in the world.

Here, you will learn about the groundbreaking discoveries by Louis and Mary Leakey, which provided key insights into human evolution. Continuing on through an ever-changing landscape of plains, hills, and forests, you will arrive at your lodge near Ngorongoro by evening.

Day 8: Ngorongoro Crater – Nature’s Amphitheatre

Today, prepare to be awe-struck. After breakfast, we descend into the breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most spectacular natural wonders in Africa. Known as the "Gift of Life" by the Maasai, this enormous caldera formed over two million years ago and now harbors an abundance of wildlife.

You’ll have the chance to spot the Big Five and other animals such as zebras, warthogs, hyenas, and flamingos. Enjoy a picnic lunch beside the hippo pool, surrounded by the crater’s towering walls. Whether bathed in sunlight or draped in mist, the crater offers an unforgettable safari experience.

Day 9: Karatu to Moshi – Stones & Stories

After breakfast, we begin the drive towards Moshi, stopping in Arusha to visit the fascinating Tanzanite Experience Museum. Here, you’ll discover the story behind one of the world’s rarest gemstones — the dazzling blue Tanzanite, found only in Tanzania.

you will have a picnic lunch en route and continue our journey to Moshi, nestled at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro, where you'll check in for your overnight stay.

Day 10: Moshi to Materuni Village – Waterfalls & Coffee Culture

After a leisurely breakfast, we travel to Materuni Village, located in the lush foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro and home to the Chagga people. From here, you will take a scenic walk (about 45 minutes) to a stunning waterfall, with an optional dip in its cool, refreshing waters.

Following this, you willll stroll through farmland and forest to a nearby coffee plantation. Here, you will enjoy a traditional lunch, followed by an immersive experience in the art of Arabica coffee making—from picking and roasting to sipping your own brew. The visit ends with some vibrant local singing and dancing, celebrating the rich culture of the Chagga tribe.

Day 11: Journey from Moshi to Lushoto – Gateway to the Usambara Mountains

After breakfast, we set off for the lush highlands of Lushoto, traveling through an ever-changing landscape. Along the way, you’ll pass expansive sisal plantations, picturesque valleys, and traditional villages.

Lushoto lies nestled within the Usambara Mountains, part of the Eastern Arc range—an ecological treasure trove stretching over 90 kilometers. These ancient mountains are cloaked in misty rainforests and recognized globally as a Biodiversity Hotspot, sheltering a rich tapestry of flora and fauna. Notable endemic species include the striking Usambara eagle-owl, vibrant forest flowers, and rare tree species.

Upon arriving in Lushoto town, you will continue ascending toward the peaceful village of Irente. Enjoy a delicious farm-to-table lunch featuring fresh local produce before taking a gentle hike through the village trails to a breathtaking lookout point with panoramic views of the Maasai Steppe below.

Day 12: Lushoto to Morogoro – From Mountains to Savannah

Today we descend from the cool mountain air of the Usambaras and begin our scenic drive toward Morogoro, gateway to the vast Selous ecosystem. The journey winds through immense sisal plantations and stretches of fertile countryside.

you will enjoy a picnic lunch en route, soaking in the landscape as we approach the lowland plains. Upon arrival in Morogoro, you’ll settle in and prepare for your adventure into the wild heart of southern Tanzania.

Day 13: Morogoro / Selous Game Reserve – Into the Southern Wilderness

This morning we drive directly to the immense Selous Game Reserve, one of the largest protected areas on the African continent, encompassing a staggering 54,600 square kilometers. Despite its size, wildlife is abundant, though more dispersed than in the northern parks, giving Selous a truly untamed and authentic feel.

Here you will find large populations of elephants, lions, buffaloes, giraffes, hippos, and crocodiles across a mosaic of habitats: dense woodlands, grassy savannahs, and swampy wetlands.

Our main focus will be the northern Selous region, where the serene Rufiji River meanders through the landscape before emptying into the Indian Ocean. The area is ideal for a variety of immersive safari experiences, from walking safaris to tranquil boat excursions.

We will pause for a picnic lunch and head out in the afternoon for an exciting game drive.

Day 14: Selous Game Reserve – Safari and River Adventure

After breakfast at your camp or lodge, choose how you'd like to explore this wilderness gem—opt for a relaxing morning game drive or take a break with a scenic picnic in the bush.

In the afternoon, enjoy a boat safari on the Rufiji River, a unique experience that offers up-close encounters with hippos, crocodiles, and an array of bird species. Glide through the waterways and take in the calm beauty of the reserve from a whole new perspective.

Day 15: Selous to Dar es Salaam – From Safari to City Life

We say goodbye to Selous after breakfast, embarking on a final game drive as we make our way out of the reserve. Keep your camera ready for any last glimpses of the abundant wildlife.

Once we exit the park, you will enjoy a relaxed picnic lunch before continuing to the bustling port city of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania’s commercial and cultural hub. Arrive in the late afternoon and settle in for a restful evening.

Day 16: Dar es Salaam to Zanzibar – Island Bound

Today marks your journey to the magical island of Zanzibar. Choose between a quick flight or a scenic ferry ride across the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. Upon arrival, you will be warmly welcomed and transferred to your accommodation in the historic heart of Stone Town.

Zanzibar, part of the larger Unguja island in the Zanzibar Archipelago, is steeped in centuries of trade and cultural fusion. From Persian and Arab sultans to European explorers, the island has long been a meeting point of worlds, reflected in its vibrant architecture, cuisine, and way of life.

Admire Zanzibar’s famous carved wooden doors, wander through colorful bazaars, and marvel at the blend of Swahili, Arab, Indian, and European architectural styles.

In the afternoon, we set off on a short boat ride to nearby Prison Island, once used to house rebellious slaves and now home to giant tortoises and coral-fringed beaches.

Best Time for Tanzania Safari | Kilimanjaro Trek & Zanzibar Beach Escape

Choosing the right time for your 20-day Tanzania luxury safari tours & Zanzibar beach holiday depends on weather, wildlife activity, and personal preferences for climate and crowd levels.

Best Seasons for a Tanzania Safari

June to October (Dry Season) – Prime time for wildlife viewing. Animals gather near water sources, and the Great Migration peaks between July and September.

January to March – Calving season in the Serengeti, ideal for predator sightings and vibrant wildlife activity.

Avoid: April and May when rains make travel more challenging. However, this time brings lush landscapes and fewer crowds.

Best Time to Visit Zanzibar Beach

The best time to enjoy Zanzibar’s stunning beaches is during the dry seasons from June to October and December to February, when the weather is sunny, warm, and ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and relaxing on the shore.

These months offer calm seas, low humidity, and crystal-clear skies—perfect for both adventure and leisure travelers. June to October is especially ideal if you're combining your beach escape with a Tanzania safari or Kilimanjaro trek, as it aligns with peak wildlife viewing and climbing seasons.

The island enjoys a tropical climate year-round, but it’s best to avoid April and May, when the long rains can affect travel plans. For a truly seamless experience, align your beach stay with Zanzibar’s dry season for ultimate relaxation and island magic.

Pro Tip

For the ultimate experience, plan your adventure between June and October—the sweet spot for trekking Kilimanjaro, spotting wildlife in the wild, and unwinding on Zanzibar’s dreamy beaches.
