after breakfast in arusha, you'll drive to momella gate in arusha national park. the trek begins with an armed ranger escort through open grassland where you might spot giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, and monkeys. the trail ascends through montane forest to miriakamba hut (2,514m) where you’ll have dinner and overnight.
today’s hike ascends steeply along a ridge through lush forest, offering excellent views of mount kilimanjaro. after passing the elephant ridge, you'll reach saddle hut (3,570m). in the afternoon, there’s an optional hike to little meru (3,820m) for acclimatization and sunset views.
an early midnight start leads to the summit. hike along a narrow ridge past rhino point and cobra point, reaching socialist peak (4,566m) at sunrise. after enjoying breathtaking views of kilimanjaro and the crater, descend back to saddle hut for a short rest, then continue to miriakamba hut for overnight.
