Road guests drive west from Arusha across the highlands into the central Serengeti with afternoon game drives en route; fly-in guests meet at Seronera airstrip. The day's objective is simply to arrive in the balloon corridor with time to spare.
The first game drive orients you on the resident wildlife around the camp — the migration may already be visible or still a morning away, and exact herd positions depend on the season and recent rains.
Evening briefing on the pre-dawn balloon schedule and weather terms, with a realistic note on the migration's current location. Overnight: central Serengeti camp or lodge.
Pre-dawn transfer to the launch site, safety briefing and the silent lift into the dark. Sunrise arrives with the plains below carrying its herds — wildebeest, zebra and gazelle spread out beneath the basket wherever the season has placed them.

A long drive day with a picnic lunch beside tens of thousands of migrants — wildebeest columns, zebra movements and the predators patrolling the edges. Walks are not part of this day; the vehicle covers the distance.
Reach the next camp or lodge positioned near the herd front. Overnight: seasonal migration-zone camp or lodge.
A full day granted to the herd front: dawn crossings where rivers run, calving rallies in the green season and the patient wait at the classic river viewpoints in the north. River crossings especially are never guaranteed — they depend on herd size, pressure and water levels.
Midday siesta at camp while the plains sleep; late afternoon resumes the search in the golden hour when lion activity and crossing attempts are most often seen.
Night drives are not permitted in the Serengeti, so the evening is camp, dinner and photo review. Overnight: the same camp or lodge.
One last early drive on the front before breakfast. Road guests then drive south to Arusha with en-route breaks, arriving late afternoon or evening.
Fly-in guests transfer to the seasonal airstrip or Seronera for the scheduled flight home.

Drone Regulations
Drones are strictly prohibited in Tanzanian national parks without special permits. Do not bring a drone "” it will be confiscated at the airport. We offer professional aerial footage upon request (pre-arranged).
Guide Positioning
Our guides communicate with each other via radio to share sightings. They position the vehicle at the optimal angle for light, composition, and safety. Don't hesitate to ask your guide to move the vehicle for a better shot.
Vehicle Bean Bags
Each vehicle has a window-mount bean bag for lens stabilization. This is more effective than a tripod and allows quick setup when the action is happening. We also carry a monopod in the vehicle.
Protect Your Gear
Dust is the #1 enemy of camera equipment. Bring a camera dust blower, lens cleaning cloths, and a rain cover (dust cover). Zip-lock bags for memory cards and batteries. Avoid changing lenses in open air when possible.

Essential Travel Tips for Tanzania

Visa Requirements
Most nationalities require a visa for Tanzania. E-visa available at visa.immigration.go.tz (apply 2+ weeks before travel). Visa on arrival also available at JRO/NBO airports "” $50 USD for US citizens, $50 for most others. Check your country's specific requirements.
Health & Vaccinations
Yellow Fever certificate required if travelling from an endemic country. Recommended: Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Tetanus, and routine vaccinations. Malaria prophylaxis is strongly recommended "” consult your doctor 4-6 weeks before travel.
Travel Insurance
Comprehensive travel insurance is mandatory. Must cover medical evacuation, trip cancellation, baggage loss, and emergency repatriation. We recommend World Nomads, SafetWing, or your local provider. We do not sell insurance but can advise on adequate coverage.
Money & Tipping
USD is widely accepted. Carry small bills ($1, $5, $10, $20) for tips and incidentals. ATMs available in Arusha but unreliable in safari areas. Recommended tipping: guide $20-30/day, cook $10-15/day. Credit cards accepted at lodges (3-5% surcharge).
SIM Cards & Internet
Buy a local SIM at JRO airport arrivals or in Arusha. Vodacom and Airtel have the best coverage in safari areas. 10GB data costs ~$10. Lodge WiFi is available but can be slow in remote areas. WhatsApp works well throughout most of the Serengeti.
Tipping Culture & Etiquette
Tanzania has a tipping culture. Tipping is not mandatory but is appreciated. Safari guides rely on tips as a significant part of their income. Tipping guideline: Safari guide $20-30 per person per day. Lodge staff $5-10 per day. Use the lodge tip box for general staff.
