3-Day Serengeti Road Safari Itinerary from Moshi
Three days, one park, and two full nights among the plains.
Your guide collects you from your Moshi hotel in the early morning, vehicle packed and paperwork ready. This 3-day safari heads first along the short road to Arusha, joining the main northern route before continuing toward the Serengeti entrance gate through the Ngorongoro highlands corridor.
While your guide completes entry formalities at the gate, you have a first taste of the park — the short-grass plains stretching to the horizon. The central Serengeti around Seronera and the Moru Kopjes is the day's hunting ground, and the first game drive begins almost immediately after the gate.
Lunch is a packed picnic at a shady spot, followed by an afternoon drive along the Seronera River lines where lion, leopard and hippo are commonly found. You check into your camp or lodge as the light softens, with a full-board dinner and overnight inside the park.
Gate queues and roadworks can shift arrival times; your guide builds in buffers so the first drive still gets prime daylight. Exact route and property are confirmed at booking.
An early breakfast sends the vehicle out for sunrise over the plains, when lions are returning from the night and cheetahs warm on termite mounds. Morning light across Seronera's open grassland is some of the best in the park for cat sightings.
By mid-morning you have covered the river lines and scattered kopjes where leopard rest in acacia branches. A packed lunch is taken at a picnic site, then the afternoon explores the Moru Kopjes to the south — ancient rock outcrops that shelter lions and mark a quieter corner of the park.
The late drive works its way back through the plains as the herds drift toward water, with stops for anything the guide's eye catches. Dinner and the second overnight are at your central Serengeti camp or lodge.
The migration passes through this area in some seasons and stays far away in others; your guide adapts the day's route to whatever wildlife the plains offer on the day. Nothing is ever guaranteed.
The last morning starts before dawn for a final sunrise drive, the coolest and most active hours of the trip. With the vehicle's roof open you scan the plains one last time — lions stirring, elephants crossing the track, and the light turning the grassland gold.
After breakfast at the camp you pack out and drive back through the park gate toward Arusha. A lunch break is made en route, either at a roadside stop or a lodge viewpoint, before the transfer continues through the highlands.
The return road passes back through the Ngorongoro corridor without entering the crater, and your guide delivers you to your Moshi hotel, an Arusha hotel, or Kilimanjaro International Airport for an onward flight.

The single biggest advantage of sleeping inside the park is the first hour of light. Ask your lodge for the earliest breakfast, and be ready at the vehicle before the sun tops the acacias. On the central plains the Seronera river lines and the kopjes hold cats all year — move slowly, look for vultures over kills, and let your guide's instinct do the rest. Coming straight off Kilimanjaro, the afternoon drives feel gentle by comparison — treat them as the reward for the summit.

Central Serengeti holds strong resident wildlife all year, so this road safari never depends on the migration. Lions, elephants, buffalo and giraffe live around Seronera and the Moru Kopjes in every season.
When the migration is in the south in January-March or the west and north from June-October, large herds may pass through or near the central corridor. Your guide adapts the two days of drives toward the current resident and visiting wildlife.

Vehicle Bean Bags

Dust is the #1 enemy of camera equipment. Bring a camera dust blower, lens cleaning cloths, and a rain cover (dust cover). Zip-lock bags for memory cards and batteries. Avoid changing lenses in open air when possible.

Visa Requirements
Most nationalities require a visa for Tanzania. E-visa available at visa.immigration.go.tz (apply 2+ weeks before travel). Visa on arrival also available at JRO/NBO airports — $50 USD for US citizens, $50 for most others. Check your country's specific requirements.
Health & Vaccinations
Yellow Fever certificate required if travelling from an endemic country. Recommended: Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Tetanus, and routine vaccinations. Malaria prophylaxis is strongly recommended — consult your doctor 4-6 weeks before travel.
Travel Insurance
