Drive Time: Arusha → Lake Manyara is about 126 km (78 miles) — a scenic 2.5-hour drive across the Great Rift Valley escarpment.
Morning: Meet your guide at your Arusha hotel or Kilimanjaro International Airport at around 8:00 AM. After a short safari orientation you drive west across the Great Rift Valley, watching the landscape change from coffee plantations and banana groves on Mount Meru's slopes to wide-open acacia savannah before your first views of the glittering lake far below.
Midday: Enter Lake Manyara National Park beneath the dramatic rift escarpment. On your first game drive through the lush groundwater forest, keep a lookout for Manyara's famous tree-climbing lions, plus elephants, buffalo, blue monkeys, bushbuck and huge troops of baboons patrolling the roadside.
Afternoon: Continue to the lakeshore where thousands of pink flamingos, pelicans and storks wade in the shallows — one of the most spectacular bird scenes in Africa with more than 400 recorded species. Stop for a picnic lunch at a shady hippo pool before a short game drive through the acacia woodland as the golden light of late afternoon arrives.
Evening: Drive to your designated budget campsite near Mto wa Mbu, the lively gateway village at the base of the escarpment. Unwind with a chef-cooked dinner around the campfire under a sky full of stars.

Early Morning: Rise before dawn and re-enter the park for the best wildlife hours of the day. As the sun lifts over the escarpment, predators are at their most active — search for lions emerging from the fig trees, leopards slipping through the forest edge, and the morning bustle of elephants at the water's edge.
Midday: Enjoy a bush breakfast or picnic at one of the park's scenic stops before a final short game drive. Then head back through the rift escarpment, keeping an eye out for giraffe and zebra crossing the open steppe beside the road.
Transfer: Arrive back in Arusha in the early afternoon. Your guide will drop you at your hotel, the airport for onward travel, or connect you to a longer safari — many guests add Tarangire, the Serengeti or Ngorongoro next.

Visa Requirements
Most nationalities require a visa for Tanzania. E-visa is available at visa.immigration.go.tz (apply 2+ weeks before travel). Visa on arrival is also available at JRO/NBO airports — $50 USD for most nationalities. Check your country's specific requirements.
Health & Vaccinations
A Yellow Fever certificate is required if travelling from an endemic country. Recommended: Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Tetanus and routine vaccinations. Malaria prophylaxis is strongly recommended — consult your doctor 4-6 weeks before travel.
Travel Insurance
Comprehensive travel insurance is mandatory. It must cover medical evacuation, trip cancellation, baggage loss and emergency repatriation. We recommend World Nomads, SafetyWing or your local provider, and can advise on adequate coverage.
