Morning: Your luxury safari begins with a 6:30 AM pickup from your Arusha hotel or Kilimanjaro International Airport. After a brief orientation with your safari coordinator, you'll be transferred to Arusha Airport for your scheduled 1-hour light aircraft flight to the Serengeti. The Cessna Grand Caravan or similar aircraft provides panoramic windows for exceptional aerial photography of Mount Meru and the Great Rift Valley.
Midday: Upon landing at the Serengeti airstrip (either Seronera or Kogatende depending on migration location), your private guide and 4x4 safari vehicle with pop-up roof will be waiting. Enjoy a welcome refreshment as your guide briefs you on the wildlife and terrain ahead. A short game drive en route to your lodge introduces you to the Serengeti's vastness.
Afternoon: Check into your luxury lodge, where you'll be greeted with a cool towel and welcome drink. After settling into your room, depart for your first afternoon game drive (approximately 3 hours, 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM). The 3-hour scenic drive (approximately 150 km) climbs from the Serengeti plains into the lush Ngorongoro Highlands, ascending from 1,500 metres to over 2,200 metres above sea level. Midday: During the drive, you'll pass through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area gate where Maasai pastoralists graze their cattle alongside wildlife "” a unique example of human-wildlife coexistence. Depart at 6:15 AM to descend the 600-metre crater wall "” the switchback road offers spectacular views as the sun rises over the caldera. Only registered vehicles with special permits are allowed into the crater, ensuring crowd control and preserving the ecosystem. The early descent ensures you beat the crowds and see animals during their most active hours.
Morning Game Drive (6:30 AM to 10:30 AM): The Ngorongoro Crater floor spans 260 square kilometres and hosts over 25,000 large animals. The crater is a natural enclosure "” most animals stay within the caldera walls year-round. This is one of the best places in East Africa to see the endangered black rhino, with a healthy population of approximately 30 individuals. Lions here are famously bold and often found near vehicles. The Gorigor Swamp area is excellent for elephant sightings, while Lake Magadi attracts thousands of flamingos creating a pink-hued shoreline.
Midday (10:30 AM to 12:30 PM): Drive across the crater floor to the Hippo Pool area "” a designated picnic site where hippos wallow in the clear water while zebras, wildebeest, and waterbucks graze nearby. Afternoon (12:30 PM to 3:00 PM): The crater offers exceptional variety "” from the soda lake (Lake Magadi) to freshwater springs, marshes, grasslands, and acacia woodland. Each habitat supports different species. Visit the Engitati Hill area where cheetahs use the high ground to scan for prey. The Ngoitokitok Springs area is another highlight with crystal-clear waters and large hippo pods. Golden jackals, bat-eared foxes, spotted hyenas, and servals are commonly sighted.
Late Afternoon: Begin the ascent back up the crater wall around 3:00 PM. The 30-minute climb offers a last look at the incredible landscape below. Midday: Stop at a roadside viewpoint for photographs of the Great Rift Valley escarpment and Lake Manyara in the distance (weather permitting). Arrive in Arusha around 12:30 PM. You'll be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your departure flight, or to your Arusha hotel if you're extending your stay. For guests with late flights, we can arrange a day room in Arusha or a visit to local craft markets for last-minute souvenirs.
Extension Options: For guests continuing to Zanzibar, we can arrange a connecting flight from Arusha to Zanzibar (approximately 1 hour). The best light is 6:00"“8:30 AM and 4:30"“6:30 PM. Our game drives are scheduled around these windows. The low angle creates warm tones, long shadows, and dramatic wildlife portraits.
Drone Regulations
Drones are strictly prohibited in Tanzanian national parks without special permits. Do not bring a drone "” it will be confiscated at the airport. We offer professional aerial footage upon request (pre-arranged).
Guide Positioning
Our guides communicate with each other via radio to share sightings. They position the vehicle at the optimal angle for light, composition, and safety. Don't hesitate to ask your guide to move the vehicle for a better shot.
Vehicle Bean Bags
Each vehicle has a window-mount bean bag for lens stabilization. This is more effective than a tripod and allows quick setup when the action is happening. We also carry a monopod in the vehicle.
Protect Your Gear
Dust is the #1 enemy of camera equipment. Bring a camera dust blower, lens cleaning cloths, and a rain cover (dust cover). Zip-lock bags for memory cards and batteries. Avoid changing lenses in open air when possible.

Essential Travel Tips for Tanzania

Visa Requirements
Most nationalities require a visa for Tanzania. E-visa available at visa.immigration.go.tz (apply 2+ weeks before travel). Visa on arrival also available at JRO/NBO airports "” $50 USD for US citizens, $50 for most others. Check your country's specific requirements.
Health & Vaccinations
Yellow Fever certificate required if travelling from an endemic country. Recommended: Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Tetanus, and routine vaccinations. Malaria prophylaxis is strongly recommended "” consult your doctor 4-6 weeks before travel.
Travel Insurance
Comprehensive travel insurance is mandatory. Must cover medical evacuation, trip cancellation, baggage loss, and emergency repatriation. We recommend World Nomads, SafetWing, or your local provider. We do not sell insurance but can advise on adequate coverage.
Money & Tipping
USD is widely accepted. Carry small bills ($1, $5, $10, $20) for tips and incidentals. ATMs available in Arusha but unreliable in safari areas. Recommended tipping: guide $20-30/day, cook $10-15/day. Credit cards accepted at lodges (3-5% surcharge).
SIM Cards & Internet
Buy a local SIM at JRO airport arrivals or in Arusha. Vodacom and Airtel have the best coverage in safari areas. 10GB data costs ~$10. Lodge WiFi is available but can be slow in remote areas. WhatsApp works well throughout most of the Serengeti.
Tipping Culture & Etiquette
Tanzania has a tipping culture. Tipping is not mandatory but is appreciated. Safari guides rely on tips as a significant part of their income. Tipping guideline: Safari guide $20-30 per person per day. Lodge staff $5-10 per day. Use the lodge tip box for general staff.
