Morning: Your mid-range safari begins with a 7:00 AM pickup from your Arusha hotel. Meet your expert guide Daniel Mrith, who will be your personal driver and wildlife interpreter for the entire 6-day journey. After a brief orientation, you'll depart Arusha heading south towards Tarangire National Park. The 2.5-hour scenic drive passes through Maasai villages and the Great Rift Valley escarpment. Your guide will share insights about the landscape, culture, and wildlife you're about to encounter.
Midday: Arrive at Tarangire National Park around 10:00 AM. The park is famous for its ancient baobab trees and the Tarangire River, the primary water source in the dry season. As you enter, you'll immediately notice the scale of the landscape "” rolling savannah dotted with thousands of baobabs, some over 1,000 years old. Your first game drive begins immediately through the park's entrance area.
Afternoon: Enjoy a picnic lunch at a designated site within the park (12:30 PM). Continue your afternoon game drive (2:00 PM to 5:30 PM) exploring the riverine woodlands and open plains where elephants gather in herds of 50-100. Tarangire has one of the highest elephant densities in Tanzania. Look out for lions, leopards, and the park's famous pythons. The golden afternoon light creates spectacular photography conditions among the baobabs.
Evening: Exit the park around 5:30 PM and transfer to your lodge in the Tarangire area (approximately 15-20 minutes). Check in, freshen up in your en-suite room, and enjoy dinner at the lodge restaurant. Your guide will brief you on tomorrow's full-day Tarangire adventure. Relax under the star-filled African sky.

Continue exploring the park's varied habitats: from open grasslands to dense riverine forests. Your guide will point out animal tracks, explain tree species, and help identify birds by call. Tarangire hosts over 550 bird species.
Afternoon: After a picnic lunch, continue game drives along the Tarangire River where animals gather throughout the dry season. This is the best time to see elephant herds crossing the river, zebras, giraffes, and buffalo. The park is also known for its large lion prides, and with luck, you may spot the elusive leopard lounging in a baobab fork. Your guide will position the vehicle for optimal viewing and photography.
Evening: Begin the return drive to your lodge around 5:00 PM, taking a different route for additional wildlife sightings. Arrive at the lodge by 6:00 PM. Relax in the common area or on your veranda before dinner. Share stories of the day's sightings with your guide over a hearty dinner.

Visit a hippo pool where dozens of hippos wallow together. The later afternoon is ideal for spotting animals heading to waterholes. Your guide will navigate to areas with the most active wildlife based on radio communications with other guides.
Evening: Sundowner stop as the sun sets over the Serengeti "” your guide will prepare drinks at a scenic viewpoint. Watch the sky turn orange, pink, and purple while elephants and giraffes pass in the distance. Return to camp for dinner. Optional evening wildlife talk or campfire storytelling.

Morning Game Drive (8:00 AM to 12:00 PM): Descend the 600-metre crater wall into the UNESCO World Heritage Site for a once-in-a-lifetime game drive. The crater floor hosts over 25,000 large animals including lions, elephants, zebras, wildebeest, and the endangered black rhino. The Gorigor Swamp is excellent for elephant sightings, while Lake Magadi attracts thousands of pink flamingos. This is one of the best places in Africa to see the black rhino.
Midday: Picnic lunch at the Hippo Pool area "” watch hippos wallowing while zebras and wildebeest graze nearby. Continue exploring the Lerai Forest and the freshwater springs where hippos and waterfowl congregate. The crater's enclosed ecosystem means animals are here year-round "” no migration tracking needed.
Afternoon: Ascend the crater wall around 2:30 PM and transfer to your accommodation in the Karatu area (approximately 30 minutes). Check in and relax. Karatu is a charming agricultural town at the edge of the Ngorongoro Highlands, known for its coffee farms and welcoming atmosphere.
Evening: Dinner at your lodge. This is a great opportunity to visit a local Maasai village (optional, small additional fee) to learn about traditional Maasai culture, beadwork, and daily life.
Wildlife Highlight: The Ngorongoro Crater is one of the few places in Tanzania where you can reliably see the Big Five in a single day. The crater also hosts cheetahs, hyenas, hippos, and over 400 bird species.

Your morning game drive (8:30 AM to 11:30 AM) will track these unique lions along with elephants, giraffes, zebras, and thousands of flamingos along the lake shore.
Midday: Exit the park around 11:30 AM and begin the drive back to Arusha (approximately 2 hours). Stop at a roadside viewpoint for photographs of the Great Rift Valley escarpment. Arrive in Arusha around 1:30 PM. You'll be transferred to your Arusha hotel or to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your departure flight.
Departure Information: We recommend booking international flights departing after 4:00 PM to allow ample time for the drive and airport check-in. Kilimanjaro International Airport has basic facilities including currency exchange, small shops, and a cafe. If you have a late flight, we can recommend activities in Arusha including craft market shopping or a coffee tour.
