The Grumeti crossings are seasonal, not scheduled. From roughly May to July the wildebeest herds push north through the western corridor and must cross the Grumeti River — a narrower, crocodile-rich channel that stages dramatic, compressed crossings quite different from the Mara theatre.
The exact timing varies between years, driven by rains and pasture rather than by any calendar. On the ground it means herds bunching on the banks, crocodiles holding the pools, and predators working the confusion on both sides.
