Tour Overview

2-Day Serengeti Fly-In Safari from Zanzibar

Designed for travelers staying in Zanzibar who do not want to miss Tanzania's most iconic wildlife destination, this two-day safari connects an island holiday with a focused Serengeti wildlife experience. Rather than committing several days to a long mainland road circuit, the itinerary is built around air travel into the Serengeti, guided game viewing and an overnight stay before the return journey to Zanzibar.

From pickup at your Zanzibar accommodation to the return flight on day two, the route is simple: Zanzibar → Serengeti → Zanzibar, with air travel, game drives and one Serengeti overnight as the core product architecture.

Exact inclusions — including whether return flights are included or quoted separately — are confirmed in your booking, along with the accommodation, meal plan and flight schedule for your travel date.

As the aircraft descends toward the Serengeti airstrip, the endless plains open beneath you — and shortly after landing, your first game drive begins. This is the fly-in difference.

  • Less road time, more time for wildlife
  • Guided Serengeti game drives
  • One night in Serengeti National Park
  • Ideal for short holidays and Zanzibar beach stays
  • Return flight to Zanzibar on day two

2-Day Serengeti Safari from Zanzibar — Day-by-Day Itinerary

Two days, one night, zero long road transfers: Zanzibar to the Serengeti and back by air.

1
Zanzibar → Serengeti National Park | Flight & Afternoon Game Drive
Zanzibar → Serengeti
+

Morning — Hotel Pickup: Begin with pickup from your Zanzibar accommodation and transfer to the airport according to the confirmed flight schedule. Exact pickup time is generated from the final confirmed flight rather than fixed in advance.

Airport Check-In: At Zanzibar airport: airline check-in, baggage procedures, travel documents and a safari/flight briefing.

Flight to the Serengeti: Board the scheduled bush flight toward the Serengeti. Flight routing and timing depend on the confirmed airline schedule for your travel date — both direct and connecting Zanzibar–Serengeti patterns operate depending on service and season.

Arrival in Serengeti: Arrive at the applicable Serengeti airstrip (for a central Serengeti itinerary, Seronera Airstrip is the logical operational destination where that is the confirmed routing). Meet your safari driver-guide and transfer into the safari vehicle.

Lunch: Lunch at camp/lodge or picnic lunch during the safari, depending on flight timing and the confirmed accommodation and meal arrangement.

Afternoon Game Drive: Begin exploring Serengeti National Park. Possible wildlife includes wildebeest, zebra, gazelles, giraffe, buffalo, elephant, lion, cheetah, leopard, hyena, hippo and other wildlife — sightings are possible, never guaranteed. Your guide interprets open grasslands, kopjes, seasonal water sources and predator-prey relationships along the way.

Evening: Transfer to your confirmed overnight accommodation for dinner, subject to timing and park regulations for the final wildlife viewing of the afternoon.

Accommodation: Serengeti accommodation — exact property confirmed in the booking system.

Meals: Lunch & Dinner (subject to the confirmed product arrangement).

2
Early Morning Game Drive → Flight Back to Zanzibar
Serengeti → Zanzibar
+

Early Morning: Wake early for a morning safari departure where the confirmed flight schedule allows — one of the most valuable wildlife periods of the itinerary, when temperatures are cooler and the landscape is active.

Morning Game Drive: Search the Serengeti for wildlife and landscape scenes: lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, gazelles, hyenas and birdlife. Wildlife sightings depend on location, season and natural conditions.

Breakfast: Breakfast at camp/lodge, or packed breakfast where required by the flight schedule — matched to the accommodation and morning flight timing.

Final Game Viewing: Where time allows, continue with a final short game-viewing drive before returning to the airstrip.

Return to Airstrip & Flight: Transfer back to the applicable Serengeti airstrip and board the confirmed return flight to Zanzibar. Flight timing varies by date and routing; your confirmed itinerary carries the current departure and arrival information.

Zanzibar Arrival: Arrive in Zanzibar and transfer to your hotel according to the booked transfer arrangement. Your 2-day Serengeti fly-in safari concludes in Zanzibar.

Meals: Breakfast & Lunch (subject to the confirmed itinerary).

Why Choose This Safari

Why Fly from Zanzibar to the Serengeti?

Most travellers don't realise how much a fly-in safari transforms the experience. Here's why savvy travellers choose to fly.

Beach + Safari

Combine Zanzibar's coastline with Tanzania's wildlife — two completely different worlds in one short holiday.

Time Efficient

Air travel can reduce the amount of mainland road travel required, leaving the available hours for game viewing rather than a long road circuit.

Serengeti Experience

Spend your limited safari time inside the destination — on the plains with a guide, not on highways between parks.

Wildlife Focus

Use the available time for game viewing: big cats, elephants, giraffe, wildebeest and zebra country, guided by local experts.

One-Night Escape

Perfect for travelers with limited time — a single Serengeti overnight between two Zanzibar beach days.

Flexible Combination

Combine with a longer Zanzibar holiday or additional Tanzania safari days whenever you are ready.

I've been guiding safaris for over 12 years "” I started as a driver-guide assistant, learning every river crossing, kopje, and lion pride territory by heart before I ever led my first solo trip. I still get excited every time I enter the Serengeti.

My most memorable sighting? Last July, we watched a cheetah mother teach her three cubs to hunt on the Serengeti plains "” it took over two hours, and by the end there wasn't a dry eye in the vehicle. These are the moments a guide book can't prepare you for.

I know the Serengeti like my backyard "” where the lions are resting at 10 AM, where the leopards hunt at dusk, and where the migration will be based on the last rains. Let me show you the Tanzania I grew up loving."

The Fly-In Experience

Your Flight to the Serengeti

Most safari companies don't explain the flight. We believe in full transparency. Here's exactly what to expect.

Bush Aircraft

Small aircraft suited to Serengeti dirt airstrips. The confirmed airline and aircraft type are shown in your booking — Kizza may work with multiple carriers.

Seating & Window Views

Flights offer aerial views of northern Tanzania en route to the Serengeti. Exact routing depends on the confirmed schedule for your travel date.

Baggage Allowance

Soft-sided bags are recommended for light-aircraft flights. The exact allowance for your flights is listed in the itinerary confirmation.

Safety Standards

Flights operate to the airline's certified safety standards, and schedules can change with weather and operational requirements — the safari team adjusts transfers and game drives accordingly.

Your Pilot & Crew

Upon landing, your safari driver-guide meets you at the airstrip and transfers you into the safari vehicle to begin game viewing.

Airstrip & Landing Experience

Seronera is one of the principal Serengeti airstrips served by published air schedules; other Serengeti airstrips include Kogatende, Lamai, Lobo, Grumeti, Fort Ikoma, Serengeti South and Ndutu. Your arrival airstrip follows the confirmed flight and itinerary — this product does not use every airstrip.

Your Safari Vehicle

Your vehicle is more than transport "” it's your mobile observation deck and photography platform for 2 days.

Vehicle WiFi (Select Areas)

Complimentary WiFi is available in lodge areas and most park gates. Our vehicles carry portable hotspots where coverage is available, so you can share your safari moments live.

Complimentary Drinks & Snacks

Stay hydrated with bottled water, soft drinks, beer, and wine. Snacks include nuts, biscuits, fresh fruit, and local treats. Bush breakfasts and sundowners are part of the experience.

Seasonal Highlights

The Great Migration & Best Time to Visit

The Serengeti ecosystem changes dramatically throughout the year. Here's when to go and what to expect.

The Great Migration "” Nature's Greatest Spectacle

The Great Migration involves over 1.5 million wildebeest, 400,000 zebras, and 200,000 gazelles moving in a continuous cycle across the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem. Travel during migration periods and your guide can plan game-viewing around current wildlife movements, subject to natural conditions and the location of the herds on your travel dates.

December"“March: Calving season in the southern Serengeti (Ndutu area). Thousands of calves born daily. Predator action is at its peak.

April"“May: Migration moves through central Serengeti. Long rains "” fewer crowds, lush landscapes, lower rates.

June"“October: Dry season. Migration concentrates in northern Serengeti. River crossings at Grumeti and Mara Rivers "” the most dramatic wildlife viewing of the year.

November: Short rains. Migration moves south. Good wildlife viewing with fewer tourists.

Guides plan around current wildlife movements, subject to natural conditions and herd locations on your travel dates.

Photography Tips

Safari Photography Guide

Capture the Serengeti like a pro. Our guides are trained to help you get the shot.

Recommended Gear

DSLR or mirrorless with a telephoto zoom (200-400mm or 100-400mm ideal). A wide-angle (16-35mm) for landscapes and camp shots. Spare batteries and memory cards are essential "” charging available at all lodges.

Golden Hour Magic

The best light is 6:00"“8:30 AM and 4:30"“6:30 PM. Our game drives are scheduled around these windows. The low angle creates warm tones, long shadows, and dramatic wildlife portraits.

Drone Regulations

Drones are strictly prohibited in Tanzanian national parks without special permits. Do not bring a drone "” it will be confiscated at the airport. We offer professional aerial footage upon request (pre-arranged).

Guide Positioning

Our guides communicate with each other via radio to share sightings. They position the vehicle at the optimal angle for light, composition, and safety. Don't hesitate to ask your guide to move the vehicle for a better shot.

Vehicle Bean Bags

Each vehicle has a window-mount bean bag for lens stabilization. This is more effective than a tripod and allows quick setup when the action is happening. We also carry a monopod in the vehicle.

Protect Your Gear

Dust is the #1 enemy of camera equipment. Bring a camera dust blower, lens cleaning cloths, and a rain cover (dust cover). Zip-lock bags for memory cards and batteries. Avoid changing lenses in open air when possible.

Travel Information

Essential Travel Tips for Tanzania

Everything you need to know before you arrive "” visa, vaccines, money, SIM cards, and more.

Visa Requirements

Most nationalities require a visa for Tanzania. E-visa available at visa.immigration.go.tz (apply 2+ weeks before travel). Visa on arrival also available at JRO/NBO airports "” $50 USD for US citizens, $50 for most others. Check your country's specific requirements.

Health & Vaccinations

Yellow Fever certificate required if travelling from an endemic country. Recommended: Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Tetanus, and routine vaccinations. Malaria prophylaxis is strongly recommended "” consult your doctor 4-6 weeks before travel.

Travel Insurance

Comprehensive travel insurance is mandatory. Must cover medical evacuation, trip cancellation, baggage loss, and emergency repatriation. We recommend World Nomads, SafetWing, or your local provider. We do not sell insurance but can advise on adequate coverage.

Money & Tipping

USD is widely accepted. Carry small bills ($1, $5, $10, $20) for tips and incidentals. ATMs available in Arusha but unreliable in safari areas. Recommended tipping: guide $20-30/day, cook $10-15/day. Credit cards accepted at lodges (3-5% surcharge).

SIM Cards & Internet

Buy a local SIM at JRO airport arrivals or in Arusha. Vodacom and Airtel have the best coverage in safari areas. 10GB data costs ~$10. Lodge WiFi is available but can be slow in remote areas. WhatsApp works well throughout most of the Serengeti.

Tipping Culture & Etiquette

Tanzania has a tipping culture. Tipping is not mandatory but is appreciated. Safari guides rely on tips as a significant part of their income. Tipping guideline: Safari guide $20-30 per person per day. Lodge staff $5-10 per day. Use the lodge tip box for general staff.
