Three Days of Permits, Light and Delivery
A recce day followed by two shoot blocks — the permit work and park rhythm written so the crew arrives prepared and leaves with rushes.
The crew sets out from Arusha in the early morning with the camera package and permit files, crossing the highlands and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area towards the park gate roads. Gate checkpoints verify the camera and vehicle clearances while the fixer manages the paperwork and the specialist vehicle is prepped for the descent onto the short-grass plains.
Arrival in the central Serengeti lands the crew on the Seronera film zone for a slow location intro — the riverine woodland, the kopje edges and the open-plains approach roads surveyed for angles, light and ranger-station distances. The fixer confirms the first shoot window at the park office before the team returns to base.
The evening is set aside for a kit briefing: card workflow, backup routine, battery rotation and the first call sheet. Accommodation is a comfortable en-suite camp or lodge near the shoot zones, confirmed at booking.
Dawn sees the vehicle in position for the first shoot block — the golden-hour session where the footage gains its depth. The fixer holds the specialist vehicle against the planned compositions, measuring the light across the riverine trees and open grass to keep every take on schedule.
Mid-morning break brings the crew back to camp for rushes review and card backup while the sun climbs. The fixer uses the gap to pin down the evening shoot window and to check the afternoon park-movement rules.
Late afternoon the second window opens as the sun drops: the vehicle works the Seronera watercourses and kopje edges, tracking the low-angle light that closes the day's rushes. Return after dark for backup and the next morning's briefing.
The final shoot block concentrates the closing golden light on the strongest line found over the first two days — a focused session filling the gaps in the edit rather than covering new ground. The fixer positions the vehicle so the remaining light sets the planned composition.
After the wrap, the crew returns to camp for a full rushes backup and pack-down. The fixer handles exit paperwork at the gate, confirms road conditions ahead and checks the crew's onward connection times.
The return to Arusha runs back through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, total time depending on roads and wildlife stops. Arrival is planned for the late afternoon with room for rushes transfer or an overnight at the crew's arrangement. End of the three-day filming route.

Vehicle Bean Bags

Dust is the #1 enemy of camera equipment. Bring a camera dust blower, lens cleaning cloths, and a rain cover (dust cover). Zip-lock bags for memory cards and batteries. Avoid changing lenses in open air when possible.
