Detailed Itinerary
Day-by-day breakdown of your 3-day safari & beach escape from Tarangire to Zanzibar.
Morning: Your adventure begins with a 6:00 AM pickup from your Arusha hotel or Kilimanjaro International Airport. After a brief orientation, you’ll be transferred to the Arusha airstrip for your scheduled light aircraft flight to Tarangire National Park. The 45-minute scenic flight offers stunning aerial views of Mount Meru, the Great Rift Valley escarpment, and the vast Maasai Steppe — a spectacular introduction to Tanzania’s landscapes.
Midday: Land at the Tarangire airstrip around 8:00 AM and meet your private guide. Begin your game drive immediately as morning is prime wildlife viewing time. Tarangire is renowned for having the largest elephant herds in Africa (2,000+ individuals), and you’ll likely see family groups crossing the roads within minutes. The park is also famous for its ancient baobab trees, some over 1,000 years old, creating a surreal landscape.
Afternoon: Enjoy a picnic lunch at the scenic Silale Swamp viewpoint, where elephants, buffalo, and waterbucks gather to drink. Continue game drives along the Tarangire River, the park’s lifeline, where zebras, giraffes, impalas, and wildebeest congregate. Lions are frequently spotted lounging under baobab trees, while leopards rest in riverine fig trees. Bird enthusiasts will love the 550+ bird species, including the striking yellow-collared lovebird.
Evening: Check into your luxury lodge or tented camp near Tarangire as the sun sets. Enjoy sundowner drinks overlooking the savannah. A gourmet dinner is served under the stars. Your guide briefs you on tomorrow’s flight to Zanzibar. After dinner, optional night game drives offer the chance to see nocturnal animals like genets, civets, and the elusive leopard.
Accommodation: Tarangire Luxury Lodge / Tented Camp or similar (en-suite bathroom, hot shower, private veranda, mosquito nets)
Meals: Lunch & Dinner
Morning: Start at 6:00 AM with tea or coffee delivered to your room. Depart for an early morning game drive (6:15 AM to 10:00 AM) when predators are most active. Explore the Lemiyon area and Nyati Plains for lions, cheetahs, and large elephant herds. Enjoy a bush breakfast prepared by your guide at a scenic location — hot coffee, fresh fruit, and pastries while wildlife roams nearby.
Midday: Return to the airstrip for your scheduled flight to Zanzibar (approximately 11:30 AM departure). The 1.5-hour scenic flight takes you over the Maasai Steppe and the Indian Ocean coastline — watch as the landscape transforms from golden savannah to turquoise waters. Arrive at Zanzibar’s Abeid Amani Karume International Airport where our driver transfers you to your beach resort.
Afternoon: Check into your beach resort and unwind. The afternoon is yours to relax — take a dip in the infinity pool, walk along the powder-soft white sand beach, or simply enjoy your ocean-view room. Optional activities include a sunset dhow cruise, guided swimming, or introductory snorkelling right off the beach.
Evening: Enjoy a welcome cocktail at the beach bar as the sun sets over the Indian Ocean. Dinner features fresh seafood, Swahili cuisine, and international dishes at the resort restaurant. After dinner, take a moonlit walk on the beach or enjoy a nightcap at the bar.
Accommodation: Zanzibar Beach Resort (4-star, air-conditioned, ocean-view room, private beach access)
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Morning: Enjoy a final Zanzibar breakfast at the resort. Take one last walk on the beach, collect seashells as souvenirs, and soak in the tropical paradise. Optional sunrise swim or yoga on the beach. Check out by 10:00 AM.
Midday: Your driver transfers you to Zanzibar International Airport (30-60 minutes depending on resort location). If time permits before your flight, explore the airport’s duty-free shops featuring local spices, crafts, and souvenirs. For guests with late afternoon flights, we can arrange a Stone Town tour or spice plantation visit as an add-on.
Farewell: As you board your flight, reflect on an incredible 3-day journey: the massive elephant herds in Tarangire beneath ancient baobabs, and the pristine beaches of Zanzibar. This is Tanzania at its most magnificent in a compact getaway. Karibu tena (welcome again) — we hope to host you on your next African adventure.

Meet Your Expert Safari Guide
Your guide is the difference between a good safari and a life-changing one. Every Kizza Adventures guide is a born-and-raised Tanzanian with years of professional experience.
Daniel Mrith "- Kizza Adventures Safari Guide
"Jambo! I'm Daniel, born and raised at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro in a small village called Moshi. I've been guiding safaris for over 12 years "- I started as a driver-guide assistant, learning every river crossing, kopje, and lion pride territory by heart before I ever led my first solo trip. I still get excited every time I enter the Serengeti.
My most memorable sighting? Last July, we watched a cheetah mother teach her three cubs to hunt on the Serengeti plains "- it took over two hours, and by the end there wasn't a dry eye in the vehicle. These are the moments a guide book can't prepare you for.
I know the Serengeti like my backyard "- where the lions are resting at 10 AM, where the leopards hunt at dusk, and where the migration will be based on the last rains. Let me show you the Tanzania I grew up loving."

Best Time to Visit Tarangire & Zanzibar
Tarangire National Park offers spectacular game viewing year-round, with peak season during the dry months. Here's when to go and what to expect.
Tarangire National Park — Year-Round Wildlife Viewing
Tarangire National Park is famous for its resident wildlife that remains in the park year-round, making it an excellent safari destination in any season. The park is particularly known for its massive elephant herds (over 2,000 individuals), high predator density, and iconic baobab landscapes. Unlike migration-dependent parks, Tarangire delivers consistent game viewing throughout the year.
June-October (Dry Season): Peak wildlife viewing. Animals concentrate along the Tarangire River making for exceptional game drives. Clear skies, comfortable temperatures (18-28°C). Best time for photography.
November-May (Green Season): Lush landscapes, fewer crowds, lower rates. Wildlife is more dispersed but still excellent. Bird watching is at its best with migratory species present. Afternoon showers keep the park fresh and green.
Zanzibar: The coast enjoys warm weather year-round (25-32°C). June-October and December-March are ideal for beach activities. April-May and November are the rainy months with fewer tourists.
Tarangire delivers excellent game viewing year-round with peak concentration along the river during dry season.
Month-by-Month Wildlife Calendar
Temperature range: 18°C (64-F) mornings to 28°C (82-F) afternoons. Tarangire evenings drop to 15°C (50-F) "- bring a jacket.
Best Time to Visit Tarangire & Zanzibar
Tarangire offers consistent wildlife viewing year-round, while Zanzibar is a year-round beach destination. This monthly guide helps you plan your trip.
Tarangire delivers excellent game viewing year-round. Peak dry season (Jun-Oct) offers the highest wildlife concentration along the river.
Safari Photography Guide
Capture Tarangire and Zanzibar like a pro. Our guides are trained to help you get the shot.
Recommended Gear
DSLR or mirrorless with a telephoto zoom (200-400mm or 100-400mm ideal). A wide-angle (16-35mm) for landscapes and camp shots. Spare batteries and memory cards are essential "- charging available at all lodges.
Golden Hour Magic
The best light is 6:00"-8:30 AM and 4:30"-6:30 PM. Our game drives are scheduled around these windows. The low angle creates warm tones, long shadows, and dramatic wildlife portraits.
Drone Regulations
Drones are strictly prohibited in Tanzanian national parks without special permits. Do not bring a drone "- it will be confiscated at the airport. We offer professional aerial footage upon request (pre-arranged).
Guide Positioning
Our guides communicate with each other via radio to share sightings. They position the vehicle at the optimal angle for light, composition, and safety. Don't hesitate to ask your guide to move the vehicle for a better shot.
Vehicle Bean Bags
Each vehicle has a window-mount bean bag for lens stabilization. This is more effective than a tripod and allows quick setup when the action is happening. We also carry a monopod in the vehicle.
Protect Your Gear
Dust is the #1 enemy of camera equipment. Bring a camera dust blower, lens cleaning cloths, and a rain cover (dust cover). Zip-lock bags for memory cards and batteries. Avoid changing lenses in open air when possible.

Everything you need to know before you arrive "- visa, vaccines, money, SIM cards, and more.
Visa Requirements
Most nationalities require a visa for Tanzania. E-visa available at visa.immigration.go.tz (apply 2+ weeks before travel). Visa on arrival also available at JRO/NBO airports "- $50 USD for US citizens, $50 for most others. Check your country's specific requirements.
Health & Vaccinations
Yellow Fever certificate required if travelling from an endemic country. Recommended: Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Tetanus, and routine vaccinations. Malaria prophylaxis is strongly recommended "- consult your doctor 4-6 weeks before travel.
Travel Insurance
Comprehensive travel insurance is mandatory. Must cover medical evacuation, trip cancellation, baggage loss, and emergency repatriation. We recommend World Nomads, SafetWing, or your local provider. We do not sell insurance but can advise on adequate coverage.
Money & Tipping
USD is widely accepted. Carry small bills ($1, $5, $10, $20) for tips and incidentals. ATMs available in Arusha but unreliable in safari areas. Recommended tipping: guide $20-30/day, cook $10-15/day. Credit cards accepted at lodges (3-5% surcharge).
SIM Cards & Internet
Buy a local SIM at JRO airport arrivals or in Arusha. Vodacom and Airtel have the best coverage in safari areas. 10GB data costs ~$10. Lodge WiFi is available but can be slow in remote areas. WhatsApp works well throughout most of the Tarangire National Park.
Tipping Culture & Etiquette
Tanzania has a tipping culture. Tipping is not mandatory but is appreciated. Safari guides rely on tips as a significant part of their income. Tipping guideline: Safari guide $20-30 per person per day. Lodge staff $5-10 per day. Use the lodge tip box for general staff.
