About This Private Climb

The Kilimanjaro Climbing Northern Circuit 8-Day is our private, guided climbing experience designed for those who want the freedom to climb on their own terms. You choose the dates, you set the pace, and your personal guide is dedicated solely to your group — no joining a fixed schedule or sharing your guide with strangers. See the full day-by-day itinerary below.

The Northern Circuit Route is the only path on Kilimanjaro with hut accommodation — meaning you sleep in a bunk bed inside a mountain hut rather than a tent. This makes it an excellent choice for first-time trekkers who want a slightly more comfortable experience. Check our camping details here. The trail is well-graded and manageable, with a moderate difficulty that most fit beginners can handle.

Everything is included: park fees, meals, your private guide, porters, transfers, and emergency support. You just need to bring your personal gear and a sense of adventure. With completely flexible departure dates, you choose when to go — your private climb departs whenever you’re ready. Check pricing and options or read our FAQ.

This package is perfect for: Private groups, families, solo travellers seeking a personal experience, couples, and anyone who values flexibility and dedicated guide attention.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the Northern Circuit special?+
Absolutely. The Northern Circuit 5-Day is suitable for beginners with a reasonable level of fitness. You don’t need prior mountaineering experience — just a willingness to walk uphill for 4–8 hours per day. We recommend starting a fitness routine (walking, jogging, stair-climbing) at least 8 weeks before your departure.
Is equipment rental available?+
Yes, we offer high-quality rental gear including sleeping bags (-10°C rated), trekking poles, waterproof jackets, gaiters, and headlamps. Please let us know in advance what you need so we can ensure availability. Rental costs range from $10–$40 per item per trip.
What meals are provided on the mountain?+
Three meals per day: breakfast (porridge, eggs, toast, tea/coffee), lunch (packed picnic with sandwiches, fruit, snacks), and dinner (soup, stew, vegetables, rice or pasta, dessert). Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options are available — just inform us when booking.
Can I arrive one day before the climb?+
Yes, and we strongly recommend arriving at least one day early to rest and acclimatise to the local climate. We can arrange pre-climb accommodation in Moshi at a discounted rate and a briefing session to go over your gear and itinerary.
Do I need travel insurance?+
Yes, travel insurance is mandatory. Your policy must cover high-altitude trekking up to 6,000m, emergency evacuation by helicopter, and trip cancellation. We recommend World Nomads, Allianz, or AXA for climbers. Please bring a copy of your policy to the briefing.
Can vegetarians join the climb?+
Absolutely. We cater to all dietary requirements including vegetarian, vegan, pescatarian, and gluten-free. Our mountain cooks are experienced in preparing nutritious and tasty plant-based meals at altitude. Just let us know your dietary needs at the time of booking.
Can I store my luggage in Moshi during the climb?+
Yes, free luggage storage is included. You can leave your main suitcase at our Moshi office during the trek. We recommend packing a separate duffel for the mountain (15kg max per person, carried by porters) and leaving the rest in secure storage.
What is the toilet situation on the mountain?+
On the Northern Circuit Route, each hut has flush toilets (though simple). Along the trail, there are public pit latrines at designated rest points. We recommend bringing a small pack of tissues and hand sanitiser. Summit night has no toilet facilities — plan accordingly.
How do I pay the remaining balance?+
After the 30% deposit, you can pay the balance via bank transfer, credit card (Visa/Mastercard/Amex), PayPal, or cryptocurrency. Payment schedules are flexible — we’ll work with you to find a plan that suits your needs.
What happens if I get altitude sickness?+
Our guides are trained in wilderness first-aid and carry emergency oxygen and a pulse oximeter to monitor your blood oxygen levels. If symptoms become severe, the guide will escort you down immediately — the best treatment for altitude sickness is descent. We carry emergency rescue insurance for helicopter evacuation if needed.
Can I extend my trip with a safari or Zanzibar?+
Yes! Many climbers combine their Kilimanjaro climb with a Tanzania safari (Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire) or a beach holiday in Zanzibar. We offer discounted package deals — ask our team for a combined itinerary quote.
