Serengeti Luxury Safari Experience
Tour Overview

Three Parks, One Unforgettable Safari

Picture this: Instead of spending eight hours on dusty roads, you begin your adventure with a morning game drive from Arusha. Lions, elephants, and giraffes are often seen within the first hours of your safari. That's the power of a tented safari.

Our Luxury 3-Day Luxury Tented Safari is the perfect mid-length escape, combining three of Tanzania's most iconic destinations: the Tarangire National Park, Serengeti National Park, and the Ngorongoro Crater. Begin your journey with a morning game drive in Tarangire National Park in the Seronera Valley — Africa's highest predator density — then transfer to the Ngorongoro highlands and descend 600 metres into the crater floor, a UNESCO World Heritage Site teeming with wildlife including the endangered black rhino. This is the shortest itinerary that delivers both Serengeti and Crater without feeling rushed.

With Tarangire National Park as your focus, you gain an intimate wildlife experience in one of Tanzania's most beautiful and uncrowded parks. The highlight — sleeping in a luxury tented camp under the African sky, surrounded by the sounds of the bush — is an experience that stays with you forever. Massive elephant herds, ancient baobab trees, and excellent predator sightings await.

Every detail is taken care of: private guide, all meals, park fees, and transfers. You simply show up and experience Tanzania's wildlife at its most magnificent.

As your Land Cruiser enters Tarangire's baobab-dotted landscape, elephants graze beside the river and lions rest on ancient kopjes. Within hours of arrival, your first game drive begins - not tomorrow, not after lunch, but now. This is the tented difference.

Detailed Itinerary

Day-by-day breakdown of your 3-Day Luxury Tented Safari & Ngorongoro Crater Luxury Safari experience.

1
Arrival & Tarangire National Park Game Drive
Arusha → Tarangire National Park
+

Morning: Your luxury tented safari begins with a 7:00 AM pickup from your Arusha hotel or Kilimanjaro International Airport. After a brief orientation with your safari coordinator, you'll depart for Tarangire National Park, approximately a 2.5-hour drive through the Great Rift Valley. The scenic route passes through Maasai villages and offers stunning views of the valley escarpment. Your private guide and customised Toyota Land Cruiser with pop-up roof will be your home for the next three days.

Midday: Arrive at Tarangire's main gate and begin your first game drive immediately. Tarangire is famous for its massive baobab trees and large elephant herds - some groups of 100+ elephants are commonly seen. The Tarangire River, the park's only permanent water source, attracts a dense concentration of wildlife during the dry season (June-October). Your guide will introduce you to the park's key areas: the riverine forests, the open savannah plains, and the baobab-dotted hillsides.

Afternoon: Check into your Luxury Tented Camp, where you'll be greeted with a cool towel and welcome drink. After settling into your tent, depart for your first scheduled afternoon game drive (approximately 3 hours, 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM). The golden hour light is perfect for photography, and this is prime time to spot predators beginning their evening hunt. Tarangire has one of the highest densities of lions in Tanzania, and leopards are frequently spotted in the sausage trees along the river.

Evening: Return to the tented camp as the sun sets over the baobab-studded landscape. Freshen up in your en-suite bathroom before gathering for a pre-dinner drink at the camp's lounge area. A gourmet multi-course dinner is served under the stars, featuring a blend of international cuisine and local Swahili flavours. Retire to your luxury tent or stargaze from your private veranda - Tarangire's remote location offers spectacular night skies.

Photography Tip: The baobab trees at sunset are iconic Tarangire shots. Position yourself with the tree silhouetted against the setting sun. A wide-angle lens is essential for capturing the scale of these ancient giants.

Accommodation: Tarangire Luxury Tented Camp or similar (en-suite bathroom, hot shower, mosquito nets, private veranda)

Meals: Lunch & Dinner

2
Full-Day Tarangire Safari - Big Five Focus
Tarangire National Park (Silale Swamp, Tarangire River, Baobab Hills)
+

Early Morning: Wake up at 5:45 AM for early morning tea or coffee delivered to your tent. Depart at 6:15 AM for a full-day exploration of Tarangire's diverse habitats. Morning drives (6:15 AM to 10:30 AM) are ideal for predator sightings as lions, leopards, and hyenas are most active after a night of hunting. Your guide navigates the game track network, communicating with other guides via radio and reading animal behaviour to anticipate movements.

Midday: Find a scenic spot under a giant baobab tree for a bush breakfast served by your guide - hot coffee, fresh fruit, pastries, and cooked options while surrounded by wildlife. Continue the drive through the Silale Swamp area, known for its large herds of buffalo, elephants, and abundant birdlife including the striking yellow-collared lovebird. Your guide carries binoculars and reference books for detailed wildlife identification.

Afternoon: Enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch at a designated picnic site with panoramic views over the Tarangire River (12:30 PM to 1:30 PM). The afternoon targets different habitats - the riverine forests where leopards rest in sausage trees, the open plains where cheetahs hunt, and marshy areas where buffalo and elephants feed. The siesta hours (1:30 PM to 3:30 PM) are ideal for observing animals at waterholes as they come to drink.

Evening: Begin the return journey around 4:30 PM with a final game drive along a different route. The late afternoon light creates dramatic photography conditions with warm golden tones and long shadows. Arrive back at the tented camp around 6:00 PM. Enjoy optional sundowner cocktails at a panoramic viewpoint before dinner. A three-course dinner is followed by storytelling around the campfire.

Wildlife Note: Tarangire has one of the highest elephant densities in Tanzania, with herds of 100+ individuals commonly seen. Lions are frequently spotted on the kopjes and along the river, and leopards are sighted on approximately 70% of full-day drives. The park also hosts zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, impalas, dik-diks, and over 550 bird species including the endemic ashy starling.

Packing Tip: Carry a light jacket or fleece - mornings in Tarangire can be cool (15-18°C). A dust mask or bandana is useful for dusty roads during the dry season.

Accommodation: Tarangire Luxury Tented Camp or similar

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

3
Morning Game Drive & Return to Arusha
Tarangire National Park → Arusha
+

Early Morning: Rise at 6:00 AM for a final sunrise game drive through Tarangire's most productive wildlife areas. Depart as the golden light illuminates the baobab-studded landscape. This morning drive targets any species you may have missed, with your guide focusing on areas where predators were active the previous evening. The early morning is also the best time to see the park's rich birdlife in action.

Midday: Return to the tented camp for a full breakfast and check out (9:00 AM to 10:00 AM). Begin the scenic drive back toward Arusha, with the option of a final game drive en route to the park gate. The 2.5-hour return journey passes through the same beautiful Rift Valley landscape, with opportunities for photographs at scenic viewpoints overlooking the valley.

Afternoon: Arrive in Arusha by early afternoon, where your safari concludes. From here, you can connect to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure, extend with a Zanzibar beach holiday, or begin a Kilimanjaro adventure.

Wildlife Note: Tarangire offers an intimate, uncrowded safari experience compared to the more famous Serengeti. The park's baobab forests, massive elephant herds, and excellent predator sightings make it a favourite among experienced safari-goers.

"Jambo! I'm Daniel, born and raised at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro in a small village called Moshi. I've been guiding safaris for over 12 years - I started as a driver-guide assistant, learning every river crossing, kopje, and lion pride territory by heart before I ever led my first solo trip. I still get excited every time I enter the Serengeti.

My most memorable sighting? Last July, we watched a cheetah mother teach her three cubs to hunt on the Serengeti plains - it took over two hours, and by the end there wasn't a dry eye in the vehicle. These are the moments a guide book can't prepare you for.

I know the Serengeti like my backyard - where the lions are resting at 10 AM, where the leopards hunt at dusk, and where the migration will be based on the last rains. Let me show you the Tanzania I grew up loving."

Seasonal Highlights

Best Time to Visit Tarangire National Park

Tarangire's wildlife viewing varies with the seasons. Here's when to go for the best experience.

Seasonal Wildlife Highlights

Tarangire National Park offers exceptional wildlife viewing year-round, but the dry season months (June to October) are particularly spectacular. During this period, the Tarangire River becomes the park's only permanent water source, attracting vast herds of elephants, zebras, wildebeest, and buffalo from across the region. Predators follow close behind.

June - October (Dry Season - Best): Animals concentrate around the Tarangire River. Massive elephant herds of 100+ individuals are commonly seen. Excellent predator sightings as lions and leopards hunt at water sources. This is the peak season.

November - May (Green Season - Good): Lush landscapes, fewer crowds, and lower rates. Birding is exceptional with migratory species present. The park is less busy, offering a more intimate experience. Wildlife is more dispersed but still plentiful.

Year-Round Highlights: Tarangire's famous baobab trees, diverse birdlife (over 550 species), and the chance to see the Big Five make any time of year rewarding.

Your guide adjusts game drive routes based on current wildlife concentrations for the best possible sightings.

Photography Tips

Safari Photography Guide

Capture the Serengeti like a pro. Our guides are trained to help you get the shot.

Recommended Gear

DSLR or mirrorless with a telephoto zoom (200-400mm or 100-400mm ideal). A wide-angle (16-35mm) for landscapes and camp shots. Spare batteries and memory cards are essential - charging available at all tented camps.

Golden Hour Magic

The best light is 6:00 - 8:30 AM and 4:30 - 6:30 PM. Our game drives are scheduled around these windows. The low angle creates warm tones, long shadows, and dramatic wildlife portraits.

Drone Regulations

Drones are strictly prohibited in Tanzanian national parks without special permits. Do not bring a drone - it will be confiscated at the airport. We offer professional aerial footage upon request (pre-arranged).

Guide Positioning

Our guides communicate with each other via radio to share sightings. They position the vehicle at the optimal angle for light, composition, and safety. Don't hesitate to ask your guide to move the vehicle for a better shot.

Vehicle Bean Bags

Each vehicle has a window-mount bean bag for lens stabilization. This is more effective than a tripod and allows quick setup when the action is happening. We also carry a monopod in the vehicle.

Protect Your Gear

Dust is the #1 enemy of camera equipment. Bring a camera dust blower, lens cleaning cloths, and a rain cover (dust cover). Zip-lock bags for memory cards and batteries. Avoid changing lenses in open air when possible.

Travel Information

Essential Travel Tips for Tanzania

Everything you need to know before you arrive - visa, vaccines, money, SIM cards, and more.

Visa Requirements

Most nationalities require a visa for Tanzania. E-visa available at visa.immigration.go.tz (apply 2+ weeks before travel). Visa on arrival also available at JRO/NBO airports - $50 USD for US citizens, $50 for most others. Check your country's specific requirements.

Health & Vaccinations

Yellow Fever certificate required if travelling from an endemic country. Recommended: Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Tetanus, and routine vaccinations. Malaria prophylaxis is strongly recommended - consult your doctor 4-6 weeks before travel.

Travel Insurance

Comprehensive travel insurance is mandatory. Must cover medical evacuation, trip cancellation, baggage loss, and emergency repatriation. We recommend World Nomads, SafetWing, or your local provider. We do not sell insurance but can advise on adequate coverage.

Money & Tipping

USD is widely accepted. Carry small bills ($1, $5, $10, $20) for tips and incidentals. ATMs available in Arusha but unreliable in safari areas. Recommended tipping: guide $20-30/day, cook $10-15/day. Credit cards accepted at tented camps (3-5% surcharge).

SIM Cards & Internet

Buy a local SIM at JRO airport arrivals or in Arusha. Vodacom and Airtel have the best coverage in safari areas. 10GB data costs ~$10. tented camp WiFi is available but can be slow in remote areas. WhatsApp works well throughout most of the Serengeti.

Tipping Culture & Etiquette

Tanzania has a tipping culture. Tipping is not mandatory but is appreciated. Safari guides rely on tips as a significant part of their income. Tipping guideline: Safari guide $20-30 per person per day. tented camp staff $5-10 per day. Use the tented camp tip box for general staff.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this tented luxury safari.

What makes this a "tented" safari?+
Instead of driving 6-8 hours from Arusha to the Serengeti, you take a scheduled 1-1.5 hour flight directly into the Serengeti. This saves up to 12 hours of driving and gives you more time on safari. The flight offers stunning aerial views of the Great Rift Valley, Mount Meru, and the vast Serengeti plains below.
What is the best time to take this safari?+
June to October is the dry season - the best wildlife viewing with the Great Migration concentrated. January to March offers calving season in the southern Serengeti with intense predator action. April-May has lush green landscapes and lower rates. November offers good wildlife with fewer crowds. We fly you to the closest airstrip to wherever the herds are. Each season has its unique magic.
What type of accommodation is included?+
You stay in hand-picked 5-star Luxury Tented Camps for three nights - two nights in the Serengeti and one night on the Ngorongoro Crater rim. Your suite features an en-suite bathroom with hot shower, comfortable king-size bed with mosquito netting, private veranda, and modern amenities. The tented camps offer gourmet dining, infinity pool, spa services, sundowner deck, and 24-hour electricity with WiFi in common areas.
Can I see the Great Migration on this safari?+
Yes! We track the migration in real-time. June to October the herds are in northern and western Serengeti. December to March they're in southern Serengeti (Ndutu). April-May they move through Tarangire, Serengeti & Ngorongoro. We select the closest airstrip and tented camp so you maximise time with the herds. The Ngorongoro Crater offers year-round resident wildlife including the Big Five regardless of migration patterns.
What is the price of this 3-Day Luxury Tented luxury safari?+
Prices range from \$1,500 to \$2,500 USD per person depending on accommodations and number of days. This includes flights, luxury accommodation, private game drives, all meals, park fees, and transfers. Contact us for a detailed quote based on your preferred travel dates.
What animals will I see on a Luxury Tented Safari safari?+
The Serengeti offers the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, black rhino) plus cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, crocodiles, hyenas, jackals, bat-eared foxes, servals, and over 500 bird species. Ngorongoro Crater adds the endangered black rhino (82% sighting rate), the densest lion population in Africa, and over 400 bird species including flamingos. Big Five success rate on this 3-Day itinerary is 95%.
How do I book this safari and what payment methods do you accept?+
Booking is simple - WhatsApp us at +255 623 524 929 or email kizzaadventures@gmail.com. We accept bank transfers, Visa, Mastercard, Amex, PayPal, and Google/Apple Pay. A 30% deposit secures your booking. Balance is due 30 days before departure. We accept USD, EUR, GBP, and other major currencies.
Is there a minimum or maximum group size?+
This is a private safari - just your group in the vehicle. Minimum 2 persons. Maximum 6 persons per vehicle for comfortable game viewing. Solo travellers: we can pair you with another group or arrange a solo safari (supplement applies). Private vehicles ensure flexible timings and a personal experience.
What is the baggage allowance for the tented flight?+
The baggage allowance is 15 kg per person in soft-sided duffel bags. Hard suitcases cannot be accommodated on light aircraft due to weight and space restrictions. We provide complimentary safari duffel bags if needed. Excess luggage can be stored securely at our Arusha office.
Is the tented flight safe?+
Absolutely. All aircraft are maintained to international aviation standards. Pilots are certified with 1,000+ flying hours. Regular safety audits, strict weather minimums, and modern navigation equipment ensure your safety. The light aircraft industry in East Africa has an excellent safety record with millions of passenger flights completed.
What type of vehicle is used for game drives?+
A customized Toyota Land Cruiser 4x4 with a pop-up roof for 360-degree game viewing. Each vehicle has charging ports, a cooler with drinks and snacks, Swarovski binoculars, wildlife reference books, a first aid kit, and pop-out windows for unobstructed photography. Maximum 6 guests per vehicle with guaranteed window seat.
Do I need travel insurance?+
Yes, comprehensive travel insurance is mandatory for all guests. Your policy must cover medical evacuation (critical in remote areas), trip cancellation, baggage loss, and emergency repatriation. We recommend World Nomads, SafetyWing, or your local provider. We do not sell insurance but can advise on adequate coverage.
What are the visa requirements for Tanzania?+
Most nationalities require a tourist visa. E-visa is available at visa.immigration.go.tz (apply 2+ weeks before travel). Visa on arrival is available at JRO airport - $50 USD for US citizens, $50 for most others, cash only. Check with the Tanzanian embassy in your country for specific requirements.
Do I need vaccinations before travelling?+
Yellow Fever vaccination is required if entering from an endemic country (many African nations). Recommended: Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Tetanus, and routine vaccinations. Malaria prophylaxis is strongly recommended - consult your doctor 4-6 weeks before travel. No mandatory COVID-19 restrictions currently in place.
What is the tipping culture in Tanzania?+
Tipping is appreciated but not mandatory. Recommended guidelines: safari guide $20-30 per person per day, tented camp staff $5-10 per day via tip box. Tipping in USD is preferred. Your guide relies on tips as a significant part of their income. We provide a full tipping guide before your departure.
What currency should I bring?+
USD is widely accepted everywhere. Bring small bills ($1, $5, $10, $20) for tips and incidentals. ATMs are available in Arusha but unreliable in safari areas. Credit/debit cards are accepted at all tented camps (3-5% surcharge may apply). We also accept payments via bank transfer, PayPal, or card.
Is WiFi available during the safari?+
All tented camps offer complimentary WiFi in common areas (lobby, restaurant, bar). Speeds vary by location - expect enough for WhatsApp, email, and social media. Streaming video is not reliable. We provide portable WiFi hotspots in our vehicles where coverage is available. Buying a local SIM at the airport is recommended.
Can I charge my camera and phone batteries?+
Yes! All tented camps have 24-hour electricity with Universal power outlets (UK 3-pin style - adapter provided). Each safari vehicle has USB and 12V charging ports. We recommend bringing a power bank and multi-port USB charger. Spare camera batteries are essential - charge everything each evening.
What should I pack for a tented safari?+
Pack light in a soft-sided duffel bag (15 kg limit). Essentials: neutral-coloured clothing (no bright colours or camouflage), warm jacket/fleece, comfortable walking shoes, sun hat, sunglasses, high SPF sunscreen, insect repellent, camera with zoom lens, binoculars, and personal medications. tented camps provide toiletries, towels, and hairdryers.
Is this safari suitable for children?+
Yes, ideal for children aged 6+. Many tented camps offer family rooms or interconnecting suites. Our guides are experienced with children and offer junior ranger programmes, wildlife tracking lessons, and sketching activities. Children under 12 receive a 40% discount. Children under 6 can join on private safaris.
What makes this a luxury safari vs a standard safari?+
Luxury means: 5-star tented camp accommodation with swimming pools, spas, and gourmet dining; private 4x4 vehicle (not shared); personal English-speaking guide; tented transfers (no long road days); premium drinks and meals included; dedicated service from arrival to departure; and flexible timing for game drives and activities.
Can I customize the itinerary or add extra days?+
Absolutely. This is a private safari - you can adjust game drive times, add destinations (Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Zanzibar), extend days, or change tented camp categories. Contact us and we'll build a custom itinerary for your group at no extra charge. Popular extensions: 2-day Zanzibar beach add-on, extended Kilimanjaro trek.
What happens if I need to cancel or change my booking?+
We offer flexible booking terms. Cancel 60+ days before departure for a full refund minus 5% processing fee. 30-60 days: 50% refund. Under 30 days: no refund but we can transfer your payment to a future safari. We strongly recommend travel insurance that covers cancellation for any reason.
Is this safari suitable for solo travellers?+
Yes. Solo travellers are welcome on this private safari. A single supplement applies for the vehicle and tented camp (usually 30-50% of the per-person rate). Alternatively, we can match you with another solo traveller or small group to share costs. Contact us for solo pricing options.
Are drinks and alcohol included?+
Yes! All meals and premium drinks are included: bottled water, soft drinks, beers, wines, and select spirits. Sundowner cocktails (gin and tonic at sunset is a Serengeti tradition) are complimentary. Premium imported wines and champagne may incur an additional charge - check with your tented camp.
Can I add Ngorongoro Crater to this safari?+
Yes! The Ngorongoro Crater is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa. If you have more time, we recommend upgrading to our 5-Day or 6-Day tented Safari which includes the Ngorongoro Crater descent. Alternatively, we can customise this itinerary to include a Ngorongoro Crater visit with an additional day.
Can I add a hot air balloon ride?+
Yes! A hot air balloon safari over the Serengeti is available as an optional add-on ($500-600/person). The balloon launches at sunrise and floats over the plains for approximately 1 hour, offering spectacular aerial views of wildlife. A champagne bush breakfast in the savannah follows the flight. Highly recommended!
What language do the guides speak?+

All guides hold professional certifications from the Tanzania Association of Tour Operators (TATO) and have extensive knowledge of wildlife, birding, and local culture.

Will I see the Big Five on this safari?+
Our Big Five sighting success rate on this 3-Day itinerary is 90%. The Tarangire, Serengeti & Ngorongoro has abundant lions, elephants, and buffalo. Cheetahs and leopards require a bit of luck but are sighted regularly (78% for leopards, 68% for cheetahs). The endangered black rhino is occasionally spotted in the Seronera area. For a guaranteed rhino sighting, our 6-Day tented Safari includes Ngorongoro Crater.
What is the terrain and road condition like?+
Safari roads within the parks are unpaved dirt tracks - part of the authentic experience. The terrain varies from open grassy plains to rocky kopjes and riverine forests. Our 4x4 vehicles are designed for these conditions. The tented component means you skip the long bumpy transfer roads. Game drives are comfortable with frequent wildlife stops.
Do I need a local SIM card?+
Not essential but recommended for reliable connectivity. You can buy a Vodacom or Airtel SIM at Kilimanjaro International Airport arrivals hall for ~$5-10. 10GB of data costs about $10. tented camp WiFi is available but can be slow in remote areas. WhatsApp works well throughout most of the Serengeti.

We offer professional aerial footage services (pre-arranged) with licensed operators if you need aerial content.
What photography equipment do you recommend?+
A DSLR or mirrorless camera with a 200-400mm or 100-400mm telephoto zoom is ideal for wildlife. A 16-35mm wide-angle for landscapes and tented camp shots. Spare batteries (charging available at tented camps), memory cards (64GB+), a dust blower, lens cleaning cloths, and a bean bag for window stabilization. Your guide will position the vehicle for the best light.

We monitor all flight arrivals. If your international flight is delayed, we adjust your safari start time accordingly.
