Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,750m)

The trail winds through pristine montane rainforest. Towering podocarpus trees dominate the canopy, their trunks cloaked in usnea moss, ferns, and orchids. Our guides often pause at the first stream crossing — it's one of the best spots to see bushbuck coming down to drink.
The path climbs gently through multiple forest microclimates, crossing small streams via log bridges. Your guide will point out endemic plants, explain the rainforest ecosystem, and share stories about Kilimanjaro's geological history. The section between 2,300m and 2,500m is where we frequently spot colobus monkey troops moving through the canopy.
After about 3–4 hours of steady walking, you'll arrive at Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,750m). The clearing surrounded by giant trees is a magical spot for lunch. Take in the peace and quiet of this remote forest setting.
Mti Mkubwa Camp to Londorossi Gate to Moshi
2–3 hrs
After a rest and lunch at Mti Mkubwa Camp, you begin your descent. The walk back is faster and easier as you retrace your route downhill through the pristine forest. The afternoon light creates a completely different atmosphere — golden shafts of sunlight pierce the canopy, illuminating patches of moss and fern.
Arrive at Londorossi Gate in the late afternoon. Your guide will sign you out of the park and you can stretch your legs before the return drive. Transfer back to Moshi, arriving at your hotel by approximately 5:00–6:00 PM.
The rest of the evening is yours to relax, explore Moshi town, or prepare for your next Tanzania adventure.
